This relies on the (false) assumption that communism and socialism are proscriptive when it comes to a nation's system of governance, its constitution and what it legislates.
A simple response is: capitalism has many various options when it comes to how the market operates, so why do you think communism or socialism don't as well?
In more detail, I'll use an example of a potential communist state (since communism is the more extreme version).

While technically true, I still count this as a social myth.
Undirected consumer action does affect corporate behaviour on a regular basis. The Coca-Cola company, for instance, knows this very well - the remarkable failure of their various coke flavour improvements, for example. Here in Australia, there was the recent complete failure with their attempted line of energy drinks (known as Mother), which was so dismally disgusting that they redid the entire formula and put out and...

Let's get off America and rove elsewhere:
A Russian sexual harassment lawsuit was recently lost on the grounds that sexual harassment ensures the survival of the human race.
Courts are meant to uphold the law. The law is meant to be fair and unbiased.
So you know your system is broken when the courts use blatantly sexist reasoning to justify criminal offenses.

Another thought:
You know your system is broken when it's founded on the concept of humans being rational actors, and then advertising becomes one of the largest industries in the market.
There's a saying in the advertising industry - appeal to a person's reason and you're targeting 8% of the market.
Fact is, people aren't rational actors, but that's the entire basis of Adam Smith's "invisible hand"; that people will rationally seek their own...

I had a thought the other day:
If when your national dream is applied to everyone within that nation it would cause systemic failure, there's something wrong with your system.
To give an example:
The American Dream (so far as I understand it) is in short, the ability to rise beyond one's class and become wealthy.
The problem with that, is that if everyone became as wealthy as they wanted to, inflation would go through the roof and the economy would...

The market never pretended to address social causes - where do you get that it should? Indeed consumer spending does dictate the success or failure of companies. Current state of Ford and GM are excellent examples.

But it is also a false hope to say everyone under a system(a non-capitalist system)can be equal.
Fact of the matter is, people do go from rags to wealth when, WHEN they are given the OPPORTUNITY, of course this opportunity should not be handed to them.
The American Dream is real and can happen, if you can be sucessful in how you go about with your future in your own way....
