Sop what does our resident socialist Canadian have to say about this? WHat does he think is best to do about it up there? Like what is going on up there that he thinks is working to stop this?

I would like to know more about it but from what I can tell in the article that number is of ppl who consider themselves even slightly racist, im not sure what slightly racist even means, im not sure the people polled even know ...

All that said we should work to remove bigotry based on race from society, wherever its found ...

By saying that Americans are 34% racist toward Arabs to Canada's 47%? The polls are probably too different, I would bet in the final analysis our rates would be closer to each other. Looks like both countries have an issue that we need to work through. What is the state of racism towards Arabs in the Netherlands?

That's what I mean, the polls probably measure racism differently so I don't think we can make much of the difference shown.

I find that the best antidote for racism is more positive contact between the groups. Introduce your friends to an Arab, it's more convincing than arguing about it.

I would have to disagree with the article I would guess the number of racist people in Canada is much much higher, than half.
If memory serves me correctly, Even the U N came down on them for the way they treat the natives in there country.I think this public spanking has happened on more than one occasion .

I'm a yanuck (yankee/canuck) living in BC now. We do have racism up here and some of it is pretty ugly. The natives are treated like crap and a lot of people aren't happy with all the immigration in the last couple of decades. Many english Canadians don't like Quebecers and places like Halifax have some serious problems between the black and white communities. It doesn't really compare to the racial divide found in most US cities though.

Things have gotten worse in the last few years with a conservative government here which loves Bush and his neocon bullshit.

No, I started a thread because NOONE wanted to talk about non-US events on this forum. But once again the idea of talking about non-US events and topics is brushed aside by some posters, funnily enough Monkey was not one of them.
