Hi Coberst, It's me, Glen. You mentioned that you were an engineer. A while ago, I had an idea about making cars more fuel efficient, and also to increase the life of the battery. The idea is to use the stopping power of the car to spin a flywheel/s or spring/s which would then be engaged everytime you take off from a dead stop. It seems to me that it would be a better energy return than using the stopping power of the car to charge a battery--as in the new hybrids. It could be an addition to the hybrid, as it would save drain on the battery that powers the electic motor, A flywheel could also be used to start the car instead of using the battery.
