Well, Taoists practise internal and external alchemy... in whatever form the two take... in an attempt to align ourselves with the "Tao" which is essentially the path of self discovery and thus truth. The internal is "yin" and the external is "yang", so really Taoism is very much to do with this essential conflict. You call it a simple two way... the complexity lies in the nature of how those two sides are related though and that is what the Tao helps us un-cloud. Have a look at my thread on the word "sense" and you might see what I mean :)
So, do you reject the notion that we are in some way balanced between the internal and the external? :)
Ah, I see... well Taoism is more of a guide to asking questions than something claiming to have all the answers :) In what way do you feel it doesn't work?
