That's the way I see it Meme! In the Bhagavad Gita, Prince Arjuna slumps down in his chariot having looked out over the battlefield seeing uncles and some of his teachers and friends in the opposing army. He tells Krishna (an incarnation of God) he would rather simply be slain by them than incur the guilt of slaying them. And Krishna (whom he selected to ride in his chariot in the battle given other choices like a massive army or whatever as alternatives - Arjuna chose to have an incarnation of God ride in his chariot).
Krishna reminds him how the ruler of the kingdom who he now fights duped him into believing they could share power. He would rule for so many years and then Arjuna. But the king at the end of the time he was supposed to turn power over to Arjuna refused to step down and so the battle he now faces came about. Krishna reminds Arjuna that bodies are like clothing. We put them on for a life and when we die we take them off. His slaying of the members of the enemy's camp in no way ends them anyway. They will be reborn again after they are slain at some point. That he should not take credit nor blame for his victory or loss here on the Battlefield of Life - but rather that since God himself rides in his chariot to surrender his actions/outcome to God.

OK then. If someone really does not believe death is the end and someone is about to mutilate and kill your family before they do the same to you, it is no time to be slumping down in your chariot. Killing them only takes away the body they possess in this life anyway and so it should not be hard simply blow this psychopath away if you are given the chance. In like fashion - with psychopaths now in prison on death row should not be spared. I have no problem with killing under the right circumstances. Nor do I have a problem with being killed attempting to act in a noble way.

Now let me tell you another story. There are people that really are wired wrong as you say. There is such a thing as a calcified glioma (search) in the temporal lobe of the brain such that this little lesion (insult to the brain is the preferred neurological verbiage) can result in someone planning the murder someone and carrying it out. For all intensive purposes the prosecuting attorney in a courtroom might be able to show in great detail the degree of "pre-meditation" involved in murdering the person's spouse (say). They have him on camera. They have him standing over her with the gun. They have gun-shot residue on his hand indicating he fired the weapon. They might have eyewitness's. But what they would not have is a confession. This is because despite all the evidence demonstrating this person committed the crime, they have no recollection of having committed any such crime and would deny it to the day they are executed. But once this calcified glioma about say 1/10th the size of the nail on your little finger is removed, the person never behaves in this way again and can account for his behavior ever after.

Well then, this leads to many materialist neuroscientists to proclaim that if this tiny lesion was the cause of this man apparently committing pre-meditated murder and its having been removed results in his being cured - why would anyone believe at the end of the day that ALL psychological problems do not have their basis in physical things wrong with the brain and things like 'talking cures' may seem to alleviate symptoms sometimes but they are much like reassuring someone that cut their finger that everything will be OK - but it is the actual administering of alcohol on the cut and Band-Aid to prevent it from being infected that actually result in any progress to heal the physical malady.

Can it be psychopath's have a lesion in some area of the brain that disables them to think properly? Are people psychopath's for the same reason some people are epileptic or depressed? What happens in the future when a cure is found for a psychopath such that they might look back on this century as barbaric? Well - the fact of the matter is science does not know everything and the fact of the matter is, psychopaths are dangerous to society and giving them a break will only likely enable them to kill more people and at the same time encourage other people to act out their psychopathic urges. No. These people have to be made an example of until the time arises when science knows for sure how to cure them. And even then, there are ethical questions dealing with what they have done while they were 'ill'. The families of the victims are not going to want hear how the perpetrator is now cured and safe to turn loose on the world.

One of the most interesting things I have found in psychology is that there are areas of the brain that neuroscience has associated with morality. When I say things like this it appears like I am saying that I believe some physical area of the brain is responsible for this alone. But I don't believe that for a moment. I believe there are areas of the brain that respond to consciousness and the mind. The brain is not the cause of morality. Areas of the brain light up under things like MRI's as EFFECTS of causes generated by consiousness and thoughts in the mind. Big difference. If you remove an area of the brain and someone becomes immoral, that does not prove anything. All it shows is that physical bodies cannot perform certain functions when certain areas of the brain are rendered inoperative. Consciousness animates the body for which the brain is but a part. If you are observing a vehicle from space using a satellite and the resolution you have is such that you can't see anything smaller then vehicle size, you might conclude that cars you see on interstate highways are 'alive' and exhibit ant-like behavior. You might see some car not move for a long period of time and conclude that car is 'dead'. You would not know cars are not alive but that there was an intelligence (human) in the car that is operating it giving it motion and making it appear to you by satellite as being alive. In like fashion, when a physical body including and especially the brain is rendered inoperative we look at it as being motionless and say the person has died. But that is false. Just like the car that was abandoned when it became inoperative, consciousness abandons bodies when they are no longer capable of being operated.

Bodies are containers. I have a trashcan container. But I am not my trashcan container. Cars are containers but I am not my car either. I have a body also but I am not the container called the body. The body is a vehicle/means to an end. Like all things in the universe they wear out. "Dust thou art and dust you shall return" - I am not impressed by any such things at all. Bodies are. Bodies die. Sure glad I am not my body.

Here's a funny one I just recollected I don't know how revelent as I am typing this spontanously. In the 2700 BC Epic of Gilgamesh there is a goddess he encounters and he attempts to explain to this immortal who cannot die how humans die from floods, disease, starvation, fire etc. And her response is "Oh how dreadful. Sure glad I am not a human." As in she couldn't care less about things that befall humans. As in she is not about to try to do anything about it. Well who needs a god like that? What's she good for?

In the Iliad, circa 1184 BC, by Homer we are told at some point when Achilles friend is killed in battle because he took Achilles armor, weapons and chariot and the opposing army of Troy Prince Hektor slays him - the horses are 'weeping over the death of Petroklas saying they are not to blame because Petroklas overstepped his bounds having been warned not to attempt to storm the gates of Troy (where Helen of Troy is held). It is not their fault. So - what do you mean the horses were 'weeping'? Horses don't weep. But in this case they do since they were given to Achilles ( a demigod being born of a goddess mother Thetis and a mortal father Peleus) by Zeus and are immortal horses/god-like horses. And Zeus the lord of the gods says 'of a all creatures on Earth man is most cursed. When an animal dies, it does not know it is about to die and does not worry about it. Gods do not die. Only man knows he must die (all men are mortal) and worry about it all his life and die anyway.' (paraphrased) Thus man is most cursed we are told.

I brought that story up above to demonstrate that even 1184 BC in ancient Greece (this is about 900 years before Socrates and Plato) the language used is such that we are led to believe we ARE our bodies and when the body dies we die. In a sense 'we' do die but actually we are immortal souls that were never born and cannot die. It is bodies that die. It is the universe that is changing. Bodies are part of the universe. Souls and God NOT.

When I read things like Greek mythology, I cannot believe how the stories of the interrelationships of gods with humans reads like a humans with domesticated animals scenario. I mean I have about 12 cats most of which are wild/do not allow me near them but show up to be fed in the sense 'mine'. They all have unique personalities and have evolved since infants interacting with me one way or another. The tiny kittens I am able to pick up and pet are completely different than the 'nervous' ones that I have not. But I try to imagine what it means to these critters (among lots of others) what I do. I mean they see me get into this HUGE truck they sleep under a lot and drive it off and come back. I have mastered monsters comes to mind in Greek stories. I jump on a huge tractor and drive it around for hours cutting grass. It makes a huge fearsome sound to them and they run under the cover of protective trees. I must be a very benevolent god since I feed them regularly....... I think a lot of stories in religions relate to how superior beings relate to them much like they as superior beings relate to domesticated animals.
The animals don't understand it. They just respect me/know enough that if I can ride the monsters it would be a good ideat to stay out of my way..... LOL!! :)

    bung,
    quite frankly

the profound effect hallucinogens have is to swamp the mind
with illusion to the point where the ego cannot distinguish between
    reality and preconception

your own inner illusions that you live with every day start to manifest
    and the ego collapses

thus your false reality becomes obvious to you
    leaving a deep choice :

    1) blame the substance for your horrors
    2) realize that those horrors can only be of your own making - they come from you

now one of these is all about taking responsibility for your mind
    the other is projection

there is absolutely no permanent effect that PURE LSD (etc) can have on the physical brain - the body is remarkably resilient

what the conclusion is, is that we construct our minds ourselves,
that if you fear hallucinogens then tell us what your fear is?

the endless NEW accusations against hallucinogens
show ZERO consistency with previous studies

in the 50's marijuana caused communism, etc
    its just another witch hunt
another excuse for Nazi state to extort people

and for WEAK minds to project their insecurities onto a young victim

Spoken like a true druggie. Get an education P. Learn neuroscience. Repeat after me 1000 times 'metabolic pathways in the brain. Neurotransmitter chemicals. Neurons. Synapses. Action potentials. Axons. Dendrites. Calcified glioma’s in the temporal lobe (for you PERSONALLY). Lecithin. Dopamine. Serotonin. Epinephrine. Endorphins. Cerebrospinal fluid. Corpus Callosum. Limbic system. Cerebral cortex. lateral geniculate nucleus. Glutamate.' Get my drift? LOL!!!! FC never fails to amuse me with crap. I don't need some druggie giving me their philosophical crap with no references to neuroscience. Go back and play with the other 3'rd graders until you can back up your hot air with anything that passes for science. Marijuana? Oh! you mean cannabis that contains small amounts of the drug THC. From which Hash is made and had much more THC in it. But why stop there - why not mescaline or peyote buttons? How about psilocybin? How about LSD?

Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) causes neurotransmitter chemicals in the brain to fire inappropriately temporally. This can lead to heavy loss of neurons due to neuronal death from over-firing ('frying neurons' by over-excitations') . Misfiring of neurons is what causes hallucinations from LSD. The hallucinations from LSD can lead the person to believe things that are not true and act inappropriately leading to their injury or death or worse injury or death of non-deluded people. Only an idiot would take LSD today voluntarily and bespeaks of their total ignorance of how dangerous it is, their education in general and that they likely are a dope addict themselves defending dope addicts.

Here's how this usually goes. I get some dumb ass that wants to argue with me about drugs. They in turn run for how many drugs they did. How experienced they are with drugs and thus I don't know what I am talking about. They don't seem to mind how much they incrimate themselves which is again how telling how truely stupid they are. This very same logic is used by people that think that things like voodoo and witchcraft etc are worth talking about. But there they tend to try to tell me if I don't shut up they will curse me or something. All very funny. I tend to find a lot of druggies attacted to this sort of crap as well. If you think about it - it figures. Anyone dumb enough to take hallucinogenic drugs is dumb enough to believe in these things as well.

Heres what I want to talk about on drugs. What is their chemical composition? What does this molecule look like? Is it found naturally or is it a synthesis of what man has devised by chemistry? (the drug companies) Is it legal and what medical purpose does it serve? What metabolic pathways in the brain are affected by them and how do they get across the blood-brain barrier? I don't need any druggies in my face with useless crap. They usually can't even SPELL chemistry let alone understand its molecular properties on a biological system.

Another good one is how drugs are not necessary to treat depression. This is Tom Cruise idiocy to the max. Tom Cruise is one of my all time favorites but he lost his mind when it comes to talking about drugs and depression and his idiotic relationship with Scientology. (as in scientology is a home for idiots).
