I think I just got it. Our thoughts, who the "I" is that the thoughts are created from, what gives our thoughts its uniqueness, is in our DNA. Our "I" is flowing through us, is made of us, this DNA, that which is never exactly the same for anyone. Part of our "I" is transferred to the world through spitting, excretions, losing blood, etc... Hmm... wow!!!
If one has a greater understanding of people who are afflicted with for example bipolar disorder or epilepsy to name just a couple of neurological disorders one may gain a better understanding of the brain chemistry that effects memory function. And by doing so one may be able to interpret the chemical functions that are attributed to memory. Fore the truth is, is that the body is a biochemical organism nothing more nothing less, therefore if the chemical attributes are removed from the brain it ceases to function.
Having studied psych to the post-grad level, I came at the subject with the totally other point of view. Studying badly made boats is not going to teach you how to make a well-made boat. To understand how to make a well made boat, you need to study well made boats. I always thought that reducing psychology to the study of neurotic people is like going to a movie purely for the popcorn. If you want to see for yourself what your thoughts are made from, you have to disentangle them from the senses, by spending a day or so in a sensory deprivation chamber. You need to introspect within yourself, study the way in which your subconscious sends you messages in your dreams. Study your own emotions, ask yourself what makes you angry and why. Trying to study the mind by looking at biology is like trying to study a TV program by looking inside the TV. Its a category error. I am not saying that biology has no value, merely that if you wish to find out how to be biologically healthy then study diet. If you want to increase your thought processes, then you have to engage in thought processes, like trance. Its not something that can be studied objectively, as the mind is itself a subjective phenomenon. Look within. Do not be afraid of the abyss.
No one is forced to listen to John the Baptist. They can also be excused from high school's sex education class if they choose too. If John the baptist were to call me and force religion on me I'd just hang up. That does not stop me from believing. Most of my enemies can go and bereave their losses without me. It is the appropriate thing to do; Especially when there are alot of messy people who adore chaos like a hobby. Avoiding people I do not like doesn't make me a bad person. I have a relative that believes without a shadow of a doubt that" what goes around comes around" and she's very very consistent with it. I hear it all the time especially when she commends me for things I do excellently. This does not mean that I have the same idea obsessively " whatgoesaroundcomes around" and that I need a big fat lesson for thinking that way. You cannot stop that relative from speaking to me either. The best music in the world is 'silence". __________________________________________________________________________ Yo mama's so old she co-wrote the ten commandments.
Thoughts move as messages through your neurons in the brain. They branch out at the dendrites and after that within the space between each neuron the electrical messages are picked up by axioms and do the same process over and over . A good similation of the brain is to crumble up two sheets of newspaper into a ball. When you open the newspaper and try to flatten it, that is called the surrender of the mind. That is the brain under the skull. ______________________________ Yo mama is so stupid she thinks Johnny Cash is a pay-toilet. (A tremendous lot?I'll say, ex-cons & line beggars.)
Interestingly you mentioned something of interest. I should not take your word for it entirely but just in case I have the perfect feature for this kind of suspicion. TY. _____________________________________________________ Yo Mama so fat that when she sits on a penny Lincoln dies once again!!!! (To all other frostclouders = jpie)
"Trying to study the mind by looking at biology is like trying to study a TV program by looking inside the TV." you always come up with better analogys than me! nef raven raven raven I like what you put alot, but I completely dont understand it. You waste my paper.
A synapse is the space between two separate neurons. Neurons have branched out dendrites that pass impulses to the synapse. The entrance into another neuron is the axiom. It catches the nerve impulses from the synapse. I selected the boxed quote because that was excellently written. Yes, I agree. There's nothing precocious about facts.
My brain functions differently. I can envision shapes, sizes, colors, textures, distances and events without the words. Then for no apparent reason, my nervous system checks to see how I feel depending on what I am thinking about. Other times I look for things to think about and the words in either Spanish ,or English, or both move into my thoughts. Then again other times ideas just pop into thought like my lists of things to do or buy at the supermarket. Relaxing is something to do. Your mind just wanders, rests, reflects, and enjoys the surroundings with no restraints.
"The last thousand years have witnessed dramatic increases in the production, availability, safety, abundance and affordability of food," said Wansink, author of a book titled "Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think." was announced in the April issue of the International Journal of Obesity "We think that, as art imitates life, these changes have been reflected in paintings of history's most famous dinner," he said. In an article around on the internet it said that the plates in the paintings of the portraits of the last supper have been enlarging over time which means that even many refined folks have been considering large servings as appropriate for every meal when in reality that is NOT so. More information The American Diabetes Association has more on portion sizes. Jenny Craig at least teaches you to serve smaller portions although some people complain that the food is too salty, and some food selections that are canned are to spicy. Most skinny people eat like pigeons. Watch them when their angry because when they yell suddenly you'd hear, " I AM SO HUNGRY. I CANNOT KEEP UP WITH THIS SKINNY BODY. IT'S BEEN 20 YEARS THAT I'M A SUPER-MODEL AND I HAVEN'T HAD ONE FULL MEAL WITH THE STEAK AND THE SIDE ORDER OF POTATOES,THE VEGGIS, AND THE SALAD. I EAT A PIECE OF MEAT HALF THE SIZE OF MY PALM EVERY DAY AND A PIECE OF FRUIT FOR LUNCH AND ONE MISERABLE EGG WITH A HALF SLICE OF BREAD." TY.
Ever since the linguistic turn in philosophy we put language between the subject and the object and between the subject and himself. The view we currently hold is that thoughts are made up of language. Wittgenstein's language games show that this language is diverse and complex, just as we take thoughts to be. I dont know about the rest of the bullshit beng spouted by others in this thread. And we are not able, at the moment, to answer the supervenience questions so easily discarded by other commentators here. Are synapses firing thoughts, or do they lead to thoughts? AKA is firing thinking, or does thinking superveniate on the firing? Classic body-mind problems.
If the hippocampus is removed you will have no long term memory. Left for a brain expert to analyze. ______________________________ The synapse is left in a space for the axiom to pick up. I was mentioning how nervous impulses go from one neuron to another.
Wow...so how does one go about becoming a brain expert? Concerning your hippocampus fact; does memory simply feed thought or is it part of it? Or are you implying that we could also locate the 'thought area' of the brain? If we havent allready.. Same questions remain offcourse, say we do locate the thought area of the brain, is that thinking or is it simply the thing that makes it possible for us to think? And how the fuck do I turn off the spelling check while typing these messages? Almost everything I type is wrong according to the red sqwibbly lines. I hate them, I wish they'd die...
If you remove the aerial from a TV you no longer see the TV program. That does not prove that the TV program is inside the aerial. Same applies to the parts of the brain associated with certain behaviours. ~~~ John the Baptist speak English? Think a bit. His spirit has been influencing the living world for 2k years. If you were a spirit observing the world for 2k years, would you not learn a few languages? Like all of them, perhaps? How many conversations do you think he has heard in that time? ~~ It is quite possible to think without language. Wittgenstein was shell-shocked. We think in images, we think in sounds, feelings, so many indescribable things. But a necesary aspect of a thought is that it has A thinker. A singular sense of self and perspective. ~~~ When you play a computer game alot, it feels like you are inside the game, you mind projects itself into the game, you forget about all around you and it feels like you are flying in an aircraft. By the same token, your thoughts appear to be inside your head because thats where your senses are located. If your eyes and ears were in your hands you would think that your thoughts were a result of the cells in your hands. ~~~ There is a psychology experiment which proves the separation of mind and body quite clearly. A pair of goggles that inverts what you see so that everything looks upside down. After a time, your mind adjusts, and it no longer looks upside down. Think about it.
Thoughts are no more electrochemical than they are electricity firing photons on your monitor. The brain is a medium to express thought, just like your computer monitor. But the medium is never the message, never ever. To the OP... What are thoughts made of? Creation
Creation builds a Thought. Thoughts build a Mind. The relationship between Thought and Mind is identical to the relationship between Spirit and Soul. The terms are synonymous, yet one from science, the other from theology. Many Thoughts make a Mind. Many Spirits make a Soul. Just as many Bricks make a Building or many Atoms make a Universe. Thoughts of greed, envy, hope, lust, desire, empathy, cooperation... those Thoughts build a Mind. Spirits of greed, envy, hope, lust, desire, empathy, cooperation... those Spirits build a Soul. They are all made of Creation.
