yes but the nature of the dialogue means a change of subject will be difficult.

yes, but
with a bit of imagination and the notion that all things are connected, we can still get to any subject.
For example I could mention environmental fundamentalism as an ideology superior to all others in this day and age.

yes but positivism is just more talk, fundamentalism leaves no room for failed talks ~ you do or die ~ it works in extreme situations

yes but
Fundementalism tends to be retrospective and wishing that things were the way they were in the past. The future requires that clean technologies are harnessed to deal with environmental problems generally. The Zeitgist Movement postulates how this could be possible. Also Bill Mollison has outlined how to build sustainable communities with the application of Permaculture methods.

yes, but andy
you do precisely what you complain against...

fundamentalism is restrictive when things are coasting along nicely,
but when society reaches a crisis point due to being directionless,
then some or other form of fundamentalism takes over,
like it or not,
military, or religious, or nationalist, or whatever

by getting ahead of the issue, a soft environmental fundamentalism could avert
the harsh fundamentalism that would be required for humanity to
survive the consequences of environmental disaster.

Communist-type rationing would be the consequence of environmental disaster,
and we don't want that,

do we?

:-?

yes, but chingwenjong,
Chinese communism may be a marvelous financial success,
but its just as bad as American Capitalism at devouring the environment.

Yes but I think CWJ is correct it may be already at the point of this kind of disaster, totalitarionism. Agreed that times are dire and the times dictate the kind of solution realised.
